1861 SG42 C12 Penny Stars for Sale

The SG42 C12 issue of the perforated Penny Star is quite easy to identify due to the distinctive corner check letters of Alphabet IV. These letters were engraved directly onto the printing plate as an experiment rather than using a punch to stamp them on. From plate 52 onward the punching method was taken up again. The Alphabet IV letters are usually noticeably larger than the punched letters, and interestingly, as they were hand engraved no 2 letters are exactly alike.
